Creation is not always about making, building or forming. Sometimes, it’s all about deconstructing.
This UA Cinema in Shanghai celebrates deconstructivism, a postmodern architectural movement that has started since the 1980s. Deconstructivism is about moving away from the shackle of traditions, questioning pre-existing rules and challenging pre-dominating frameworks. Such spirit is therefore reflected in the choices of non-rectilinear shapes, contrasting colours and materials adopted in this design by OFT. From the lobby, the screening houses to the VIP lounge, essence of deconstructivism is seen everywhere throughout the whole cinema.
From unpredictability and controlled chaos, we seek a new kind of beauty – the beauty of deconstructivism
